The Snow Tree

Come January 1st, one of the things i've been doing for the past 8 years is changing over our Christmas Tree to a Snow Tree.

i love snowmen as much as i do Christmas, so it seems a nice way to extend the season, keep all the nice lights going, and yet get a new look in the house. here's a pic of this year's Snow Tree and some of the decorations...
i put on lots of lights to start with, a star at the top, and then silver icicles, silver balls, blue balls, and really small white balls. And then i add the snowmen!
i have some snowmen that i made from scraps of quilt batting, a strip of left over fabric for a scarf, and a few cross stitches for the eyes, mouth, and three cross stitch buttons down the front. Then to finish them off, i take a running stitch around the outside of the body with a contrasting thread, loop an ornament hanger thru the top, and on the tree it goes!
And finally to finsh off the tree is a cast off piece of batting at the base of the trunk, mounded there like a drift of snow. One last touch are 2 metalic garlands of dark blue foil snow flakes strung on a wire and looped all around the tree.

love your tree. I hate to take mine down, so it's still up. I still turn on the lights. But a snowman tree, what a great idea.
